Product detailed description

Suseni kavy Papua New Guinea Waghi Valley Sigri Plantation A na slunciThis coffee is made from carefully selected Arabica beans of the Typica and Arusha varieties, processed using the natural method—quite rare for this region. It comes from the Waghi Valley in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea, specifically from Sigri Plantation.

Sigri Plantation is one of the country’s pioneering estates in professional commercial coffee production. It was founded by renowned crocodile hunter and coffee grower Tom Cole. Today, the plantation spans 122 hectares at an altitude of approximately 1,525 meters in the Jiwaka province. The Waghi River runs through this fertile, volcanic landscape, creating ideal growing conditions for coffee.

Beyond its exceptional geographic and climatic advantages, Sigri places great emphasis on nature conservation and supporting the local community. Only Arabica is cultivated on the estate, and strict wildlife protection measures have been implemented. Sigri also supports local schools, churches, healthcare centers, and helps maintain roads and bridges. It even initiated the founding of several primary schools.Zelena kava Papua New Guinea Waghi Valley Sigri Plantation A

Papua New Guinea is a land of remarkable cultural diversity, home to over 850 distinct languages. Coffee cultivation began here relatively recently—first seedlings were planted in 1926/1927, with real growth coming in the 1950s. Today, most coffee is grown by smallholders, many of whom have only about 20 trees alongside subsistence crops. The country’s mountainous terrain and remote plateaus make transportation difficult—coffee is sometimes flown out via grassy airstrips or driven on poor roads using trucks that often face mechanical and weather challenges..

Smallholders typically process their cherries using hand-operated pulping machines or deliver them to centralized washing stations. However, larger estates like Sigri Plantation and nearby Kigabah Plantation also play a vital role in PNG’s diverse and fascinating coffee culture. The result is a coffee with a complex and unique character—one that reflects traditional practices and the rich cultural and natural diversity of this extraordinary country.

Discover a coffee that tells a story in every cup—a story of tradition, innovation, and relentless passion for excellence.
