Kenya-AA-Plus-Kijani-Kiboko-suseni

Kenya—a jewel of East Africa—lies directly on the equator. Despite its tropical location, the climate is moderated by the Indian Ocean and Lake Victoria. From the flat savannahs teeming with wildlife, the land rises to the cool central highlands, crowned by Mount Kenya at 5,199 meters above sea level.

It’s on these lush slopes where coffee plants thrive in mineral-rich red volcanic soils. The combination of altitude, fertile land, and ideal weather creates the vibrant, juicy flavor profile that Kenyan coffee is renowned for.

At BotaCoffee, we bring you this exceptional AA Plus coffee from central Kenya, grown in the fertile regions of Tharaka Nithi and Nyeri. The name Kijani Kiboko comes from Swahili—Kijani meaning green, and Kiboko meaning hippopotamus.

Kenya-AA-Plus-Kijani-Kiboko-suseni2Coffee cultivation in Kenya began relatively late, in the early 20th century, but quickly earned a reputation for excellence. Today, over 70% of the country's coffee is produced by smallholder farmers who organize into Farmer Cooperative Societies (FCS), each operating its own processing station. The coffee is typically washed and dried on raised beds to maintain clarity and character.

Kenyan coffee is graded by bean size, with AA indicating beans between 17 and 18.5 screen size—over 7.2 mm. The "Plus" designation is reserved for lots with particularly refined and complex flavor profiles.

This harvest offers a juicy, fruit-forward experience with cherry, blueberry, and citrus notes, rounded by a smooth body and clean finish. A true gem for those who appreciate brightness, complexity, and a splash of the unexpected.
