Ethiopia-Yirgacheffe-Biri-Chereka-2024-kavovnik-s-farmarkouEthiopia, often called the birthplace of coffee, is where the story of coffee cultivation began. In the forests of the Kaffa region, the wild Coffea Arabica plant was discovered — today the main coffee species worldwide. Ethiopia remains one of the most important and fascinating coffee origins, known for its great diversity and rich natural conditions.

One of the most famous coffee regions in Ethiopia is Yirgacheffe, located in the southern highlands. At altitudes from 1,750 to 2,200 meters, this region is not only known for its fertile soil but also for a long tradition of family coffee farms. Most of the production comes from smallholders who bring their harvests to centralized washing stations. These stations play a key role in raising coffee quality through careful sorting and processing of only the ripest cherries.

This coffee comes from the Konga washing station, located in the mountainous Yirgacheffe Highlands. About 80% of the coffee here is processed using the washed method, while 20% is naturally processed. The station works with around 650 small farmers, each with about two hectares of land. During harvest, they deliver freshly picked cherries to the station for sorting and processing.

Beyond its role in global coffee, Ethiopia has a deep cultural bond with coffee. The traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony — with roasting over open fire, hand-grinding, and brewing in a clay pot — is a symbol of hospitality and heritage. Coffee is served in three rounds, each with its own meaning, bringing family and friends together.

Discover a coffee that carries both a vibrant taste and the story of the land where the world’s coffee tradition was born. Yirgacheffe coffee is not only a symbol of quality but also of Ethiopia’s rich coffee history.Ethiopia-Yirgacheffe-Biri-Chereka-2024-kavove-tresne
