Ethiopia-Yirgacheffe-Biri-Chereka-2024-kavovnik-s-farmarkouStep into the heart of coffee’s origin — Ethiopia — where the legend of Arabica began. In the forests of Kaffa, wild coffee trees were first discovered, giving rise to a global phenomenon. Today, Ethiopia remains a cornerstone of specialty coffee thanks to its biodiversity, altitude, and deeply rooted traditions.

Among its most celebrated coffee regions is Yirgacheffe, nestled in the southern highlands at elevations of 1,900 to 2,100 meters. Known for its rich soil and family-run farms, Yirgacheffe produces some of the world’s most distinctive coffees — floral, fruity, and refined.

Konga Washing Station – A Natural Delight

This coffee comes from the Konga Washing Station, located in the Yirgacheffe Highlands. The station works with around 650 smallholder farmers, each cultivating just 1–2 hectares of land. During the harvest, ripe cherries are brought to the station, hand-sorted, and dried naturally in the sun for 15–20 days on traditional African raised beds.

As the cherries dry, natural sugars from the fruit penetrate the bean, creating a cup that’s both sweet and vibrant. Once the beans reach optimal moisture content (~13%), the dried husk is removed and the coffee is prepared for export.

The result? A naturally processed Ethiopian coffee with a light, tea-like body and complex floral and fruity notes that shine through with every sip.

Cultural Roots in Every Cup

In Ethiopia, coffee is more than just a drink — it’s a way of life. The traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, passed down through generations, involves roasting, grinding, and brewing green beans by hand in a ritual that celebrates community and hospitality. Three rounds of coffee are served, each with its own meaning and rhythm — a beautiful reflection of coffee’s place in everyday Ethiopian life.

When you enjoy this Yirgacheffe Konga, you're not just tasting coffee — you're experiencing the essence of Ethiopia’s soul.
