Uganda-AA-Bugisu-plantaze-BotaCoffeeThis well-known coffee comes from eastern Uganda, from the Bugisu region on the slopes of the majestic Mount Elgon. This area on the border with Kenya is home to many smallholder farmers who grow coffee, maize and bananas, as well as raise livestock. Intercropping is common here, helping farmers maintain fertile soil, maximise yields and increase income sustainably. With rich volcanic soil and regular rainfall, the region provides ideal growing conditions.

Coffee is cultivated on small family farms passed down through generations. In many traditional households, farms are managed by women, who often represent the main source of family income. The washing process is carried out individually on the farms. Afterwards, the parchment coffee is collected at central points in Mbale, Bududa and Budadiri. In this part of Uganda, it’s also common for farmers to sell their coffee directly to passing trucks that transport it to Kampala for further processing and export.

Uganda-AA-Bugisu-kavove-tresne-BotaCoffeeThis coffee is known for its smooth profile with pleasant nutty, lightly fruity and herbal notes — a reflection of the careful work of Ugandan farmers and the unique terroir of the Bugisu region.
