Colombia Excelso EP Cauca Popayan
Medium rounded body with a foundation of medium sweetness and nutty bitterness, complemented by lower apple acidity. Rich honey aroma with hints of maple syrup and dark chocolate. Coffee perfectly crafted for delicious espresso.

Colombia is a land of many faces. With coastlines on both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, Amazon rainforest, and snow-covered Andean peaks, each region has a completely unique character. In total coffee production, it ranks third in the world (after Brazil and Vietnam), but holds the world leadership in washed specialty arabica production. It is also unique in that – thanks to its size and diversity of terrains and microclimates – coffee is harvested in some part of the country every season.
The Cauca department lies in the southwest of the country, with Popayan as its capital city. It is sometimes nicknamed "Ciudad Blanca" (White City) for its colonial architecture. This area near the equator has very stable climate thanks to its high altitude location, surrounded by mountain ranges. It is a plateau with volcanic soil and abundant rainfall, where coffee plants thrive exceptionally well.
Coffee from the Popayan area is famous for its full aroma, sweet chocolate taste with medium body and pleasant acidity. In the Cauca region, there are mainly small farms (5-10 hectares), from where coffee is sent for processing to washing stations. The most commonly grown varieties here are caturra, castillo, bourbon and typica.
Since 1927, local coffee growers have been united in the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation, which represents them at national and international levels. This non-profit organization protects their rights, supports farmers in research and quality improvement, and helps ensure that Colombian coffee ranks among the world's finest coffees.
Colombian Excelso EP coffee is a symbol of quality coffee from Colombia's high-altitude regions. The Excelso designation refers to bean size (screen 15–16), which belongs to the second largest in Colombia. EP (European Preparation) means the coffee has undergone careful hand sorting, removing defective beans so the final batch achieves the highest purity and quality.
